Neighborhood Review |
|
Downtown & Central Seattle Downtown Seattle is made up of several distinct neighborhoods, including historic, tavern-filled Pioneer Square, trendy, condo-heavy Belltown, and tourist destination Pike Place Market, with its famous flying fish. SODO, home of the Mariners and future Seahawks stadium, lies just south of the city center; Eastlake hugs Lake Union to the north. First Hill, called "Pill Hill" for all its hospitals, alternative Capitol Hill and stately Queen Anne Hill overlook Downtown, while the upscale residential neighborhoods of Montlake and Madison Park ring Lake Washington. The Central District, Seattle's historically African American and most quickly gentrifying neighborhood lies to the east, with hillside Magnolia overlooking Puget Sound to the west. In this area: Belltown, Broadmoor, Capitol Hill, Central District, Downtown Seattle, Eastlake, First Hill, Interbay, International District, Leschi, Madison Park, Madrona, Magnolia, Pioneer Square, Queen Anne, SoDo |

Just beyond, ascend into the fir-green Cascade hamlets of Snoqualmie Valley and North Bend. In the mountain's valleys, lush farmland marks Carnation, just outside suburban Woodinville, and Bothell, a blend of business parks and quiet cul-de-sacs. Northwest Seattle West of interstate 5 - between Lake Union's ship canal to King County's north line - eight distinctive communities dot northwest Seattle. Phinney Ridge and Greenwood are home to a broad range of ages, as is larger Shoreline, the first city north of Seattle's border. Southeast Seattle On clear days, majestic views of Mount Rainier are often best captured from Southeast Seattle neighborhoods south of Interstate 90 and east of Interstate 5. Some consider this entire corridor the Rainier Valley, but seven separate communities feature their own blend of housing and services within walking distance. Mount Baker and Rainier Beach embrace views and recreation along Lake Washington's waterfront, while the more inland Columbia City and Beacon Hill offer greater affordability and cultural diversity. Rainier Valley - at the core of this region - features more than a century worth of new and old cultures in neighbors and business. Beyond here, residential Skyway segues into South Sound's Renton. In this area: Columbia City, Leschi, Mount Baker, Rainier Beach, Rainier Valley, Seward Park |
